07/01/2022 (Auburn MI) The month of July kicked off the second half of the stock car racing season at Tri-City Motor Speedway. To celebrate the holiday weekend, 123 racers signed in to compete with the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort Late Models competing in the ALLSTAR Performance Challenge Series for a $4000 top prize. Afterwards, the crowd was rewarded with a beautiful fireworks display.
The Soaring Eagle Late Models had 25 competitors vying for the 20 available starting positions in the feature event for the $4000 top prize. Garrett Wiles, Dona Marcoullier, and Eric Spangler took heat race gold earlier in the evening. Joe Pomeroy survived the Last Chance Showdown to make the feature lineup. Marcoullier and Wiles started on the front row of the big money race. Marcoullier jumped to a huge lead as the first 35-laps for the scheduled forty went caution-free with Marcoullier lapping up to the tenth place car. The caution seemed to delay the inevitable as Marcoullier scampered at the green flag to finish his dominant run. Logan Nickerson, Derrick Hilliker, Greg Gokey, and Brandon Thirlby held on to top-five finishes.
Rowley’s Tire and Michigan Motorsports IMCA Modifieds brought nineteen out to run the 20-lap main event. Earlier in the night, defending Champions Collin Thirlby, Austin Harnick, and Loren Short won their heat races showing the group that they would be tough to beat in the A-Main. Jaycob Truemner looked tough to beat in the early laps of the 20-lap feature taking the lead from his front row start. Truemner held off the field for the first six circuits before defending Champion Collin Thirlby, who started 12th, took command of the lead. Once out front, he was untouched on his way to another victory to add to his 2022 accomplishments. The best Harnick could muster was a second-place finish. Kendall Morrison, Chad Bennett, and Truemner took the remaining top five spots at the finish.
In the Auto Value Pro Stocks, Danielle Robinson picked up her second heat race victory in as many nights with Ohio’s Tim Murphy collecting the second heat race. Brad Wassmann started on the pole of the main event and led the first lap before Nate Murphy took his turn at the front of the field. Powell, who had started in sixth, found some speed on the slick track by working the top lane of the track. By lap ten, Powell had caught Murphy. After numerous laps side by side, Murphy conceded the lead to Powell who left the field to capture his first feature win of 2022. Behind Powell were Tim Murphy, Wassmann, Nate Murphy, and Danielle Robinson.
The ALLSTAR Performance Restricted Motor Mini Wedges saw Cason Murphy pick up his fourth feature of 2022 beating out heat race winner Lucas Lanphierd, Jaylah Kequom, and Brantley Reil. In the unrestricted motor class, Brennan DeShano was the feature victor ahead of Addy Wade, Leilynd Strehlke, Kyron, and Pierson DeShano. The heat race was won by Pierson DeShano.
Last week’s feature winner, Chad Freeman, along with Robert Hankinson and Delayna Kaake were heat race winners in the XLT Engineering 4-6 cylinders.
Auto House Factory Stock season points leader Dale Kaake III and Eric Lake once again started their evening by picking up heat race win along with Rick Beauchamp and Blake Meylan. Those victories locked them into the main event where only twenty of the registered 29 would get to compete. John Krause outran Brent Reil in the Last Chance Qualifier to tag on to the final spots available in the feature. Lake drew the pole position for the 20-lap feature. Once the green flag dropped, Lake left the rest of the field behind as he led all twenty laps for his first victory of 2022. Front row starter Michael Vandecar was able to hold off Nick Putman, Beauchamp, and Kaake for a second.
Another great field of XLT Engineering 4-6 cylinder cars took to the track for their final 15-lap race of the evening. Point leader Christopher Wassmann led the majority of the race before Bradley Williams fought back to pass Wassmann and held on the final four laps to win for the first time at TCMS. Chad Freeman moved up six positions to finish runner-up ahead of Wassmann, Robert Hankinson, and Nicholas Thurston. Kaake was a heat race winner as were Hankinson and Freeman.
