Olger Unstoppable at Tri-City Motor Speedway

06/14/2013 (Auburn MI)   Another beautiful Friday night greeted fans and drivers at the Tri-City Motor Speedway this past Friday night.  Weiland Contracting sponsored the night of entertainment which included ninety-six racers filling the pit area to compete. Points leaders heading into the evenings action showed why the are atop those standings with impressive wins on a tough slick track.

The Auburn Hotel Bar and Grill Street Stock Division feature was another barn burner as drivers had to deal with a very slick track.  #M2 Mike Pashak and #0 Ray Derminer brought the field to the green flag with Derminer setting the pace for the initial three laps.  2011 Champion, #7r Dave Newcomb, who was battling a sore hip and back, mastered the bottom groove and jumped to a comfortable lead.  A number of late race cautions would bunch the field, but Newcomb would not be denied his first feature win of the season. Newcomb was followed by heat race winners #28 Jared Rizer and #75s Kevin Strong, #3 Loren Short, and B-Main winner #51 Todd Winchell.

The Elgin Pro Stocks Have put on a great show all season with some promising talent throughout the field.  #44 Jeff Haley looked like he could capture a feature as he led the first handful of laps in the feature event.  By lap four, Street Stock Champ and heat race winner #77d Darren Mularz took over the top spot.  That lead lasted until lap twelve when reigning champion and current point leader #M65 Rick Spencer stuck to the bottom and made the pass that took him to victory lane over Mularz. #71 Timmy Near, #77m Kevin Morell, and Haley completed the top five. #21 Steve Hilliker, won his heat race earlier in the evening.  #99 Rick Beauchamp won the B-Main.

Point leader #20w AJ Ward, #27 Matt Szecsodi, and #5 Tanner Pray won preliminary events to gain a guaranteed spot in the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA modified feature.  #70m Johnny Deyoung captured the B-main.  The Greased Pig 3.0 feature was a thirty-six lap affair with the winner being eligible for a spot on the national ballot to possibly gain an opportunity to be in the “Race of Champions” held in Boone, Iowa in September.  As of press time, the results of the feature event are under review by IMCA and will not be released until mid-week.  Please check out for updates regarding the official finishing order once they become available.

#45 Kevin Reeve was hoping for a better night in the Comp Cams Late Model division after his first few nights saw him struggle to find the right set up or better luck on the 3/8ths oval.  He started on the pole and looked tough after his heat race win earlier in the night.  He started out strong in the feature leading the first eighteen laps.  Once again, however, ninth place starter, #0x Zach Olger tracked him down and made the pass to pick up his third feature of the season and second in a row.  Reeve had to settle for a distant second and was followed by, #0jr Kris Patterson, #75 Rod Laney, and #13 Scott Baker.  Olger also won the other heat race.
