Steven Hilliker and Kendall Morrison Undefeated at Tri-City Motor Speedway

06/06/2014 (Auburn MI) June kicked off to a thundering start as Weiland Contracting sponsored a great night of racing at Tri-City Motor Speedway.  It was also Kid’s Night in which all 78 drivers brought their cars on to the front straightaway to allow the fans and the kids to get a close up view of the race machines.  Autographs, candy, and all sorts of prizes were given by the handful to young fans and future racers.
In the Auburn Hotel Bar and Grill Street Stocks, # 51 Todd Winchell Jumped out to lead the first seven laps of the 20-lap feature. #8 Aaron Spearling, #3c Mitch Clements, and #28 Jared Rizer were all running under a blanket for the majority of the event.  Rizer would eventually maneuver his way into the lead on lap eight and was able to pick up his first feature win of 2014.  Winchell would hold on to the runner-up spot followed #67 Ryan Fitzgerald, Spearling, and #09 Derek Crandall. The 2011 champion was followed by current point leader #09 Derrick Crandall, #28 Jared Rizer, Reilly, and #8 Aaron Spearling.  Heat races were won by Newcomb, Reilly, and Crandall. Winchell and #73 Kyle Reilly captured the earlier heats.
#21 Steven Hilliker has made it very clear that he would like to capture a dirt championship at TCMS to go along with his asphalt championship.  He would start outside of row six in the 20-lap feature and would need to manipulate the slick racing surface in order to capture his fourth feature win in a row.  #40 Ron Bieri would lead the opening lap of the 20-lap main event before #71 Timmy Near would take over on lap two.  By lap eight, Hilliker found himself at the front of the field and never looked back as he took the checkered flag and kept his winning streak alive.  #M65 Rick Spencer, #01 Randy Radabaugh, #93 John Robbins, and #31 Bill Fetters completed the top 5.   Near, Short, and #80 Jeramie Raby were  in victory lane for their earlier heat race wins.
#0x Zach Olger, #24 Alex Hupert, and #0p Kris Patterson Jr were early favorites to win the 25-lap main event after they won their heat races in the Comp Cam Late Model Division.   # 11L Ryan Lanphierd led the first lap of the feature before Patterson Jr took over.  A late caution on lap fourteen would bunch the field.  On the restart, #23v Ryan Vanderveen would take over the lead and motor his way to victory lane for the first time in 2014. #21 David Hilliker had his second runner-up finish in a row and was followed by, #6m Dona Marcouillier, #117 Kevin Reeve, and Olger.
Last week, eight time asphalt champion #33 Todd Matheson was disappointed that he did not get to have an interview in victory lane after winning his first ever dirt feature in the Main Street Seed and Supply  IMCA modifieds.  He would have to fight #5 Tanner Pray for the entire 20 laps of the feature event.  Every corner of every lap, it seemed as if Pray and Matheson would swap the lead.  It was Matheson that would prevail at the electronic stripe on the final lap to capture his second feature in a row.  #4s Toby Steele, #T1 John Taylor, and #20w AJ Ward were third through fifth.  Heat gold was won by Pray and Ward.
Steven’s Cycle Sales and Service Stock V6 Bomber races were swept once again by 13-year old #K11 Kendal Morrison.  So far, he has kept all of the competition out of victory lane and is the early favorite for the 2014 championship.  ##65 Garrett Laudenslager, #52 Richard Shuler, and #51 Joshua Englehardt followed Morrison to the checkered flag.
Next week at the Tri-City motor Speedway is the Greased Pig 4.0.
