The New Tri-City Motor Speedway Releases 2012 Schedule
(3/16/12) Auburn MI: Just last September, the New Tri-City Motor Speedway, in Auburn, waved the checkered flag the final time for 2011 and inaugural dirt season. That checkered flag capped an unexpectedly successful test season for the revived speed plant. After starting the season near the end of July the previous year, expectations were low as staff primarily worked on creating a smooth show and fast racing surface. High car counts and throngs of enthusiastic spectators have made anticipation for the 2012 season all the buzz in Michigan’s Auto racing circle. Newly awarded as the Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club’s Promoter of the Year, Tri-City Motor Speedway Owner/Promoter Steve Puvalowski has released the 2012 schedule of events.
The newest and fastest 3/8ths mile clay oval in Michigan will host eighteen Friday nights of racing including the second version of the season ending two-day “Battle By The Bay Showdown” September 7th and 8th. The season will officially begin on Friday, May 11th with the “Got Dirt” Season Opener and Mother’s Day Special in which Mom gets her general admission ticket for half price when accompanied with child. The Auburn Hotel Street Stocks, Elgin Pro Stocks, PRW Late Models, and IMCA Modifieds will start their season points chases. Last year’s champions (LM) Kyle Borgman, (PS) Ron Bieri, (SS) Dave Newcomb, and (IMCA) Josh Borton look to defend their titles in their respective classes. Front-wheel drive four cylinder stock cars will also make their first of four visits in 2012 on opening night.
Many new event have been added for 2012 to bring a different mix of racing entertainment throughout the season. The biggest addition to the 2012 schedule is the first appearance of the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints On Dirt (SOD) to TCMS. SOD, which has been touring Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Ontario for 33-years, will bring their blistering fast winged sprint cars and drivers to Auburn on August 3rd. Those with a thirst for Sprint car action will also have the opportunity to see the Mini-sprints three times this season including May 18th, July 13th, and September 7th. The Figure-8 track will also be used more in 2012 with a three race season with shows on May 25th, July 20th, and August 24th. The schedule is also packed full of other great events including Jeep Drags, Lawnmower races, and Fireworks.
2012 will also include many specials for the fans young and old. Our young fans, Racing Rascals, will have a Kids Night/ Autograph Night on June 1 and on Family Night, August 17th, they will have special kids races on the track during intermission. For the older fans, we will honor those that have been a part of the storied history of Tri-City Motor Speedway on Old Timer’s Night July 20th. Those that are willing to bring and donate old Tri-City Memorabilia will receive free general admission that evening. Many great stories were shared on Old Timer’s Night in 2011 and we look forward to hearing more of those this season. No matter your age, there is something for everyone in the 2012 schedule!
Friday night racing will start with hot laps at 6:45. One race division per night will attempt to “Beat The Track Record” starting at 7:30. Racing will start at approximately 7:55pm.
