Street Stock Driver Rizer Wins To Take Over Points Lead at Tri-City Motor Speedway

08/08/2014 (Auburn MI) With 108 racers pulling into the pits this past Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway and a nearly full moon looming overhead, Crop Production Services night was sure to be a thrilling night for the capacity crowd.  With the date being 8/8/14, the final Figure-8 race of the season was also a part of the evening’s events.

Over the past few weeks, 2011 Auburn Hotel Street Stock Champion, #7r Dave Newcomb has stretched his points advantage over #28 Jared Rizer.  It looked as if Newcomb could walk away with his second title.  However, during the heat race, Newcomb’s power plant imploded in a ball of flame.  The damage was too much for Newcomb to overcome and was forced to watch the races from the sidelines.  With Newcomb out, it was an opportunity for Rizer to gobble up coveted feature points.  #51 Todd Winchell would lead the opening laps of the 20-lap feature.  By lap 6, Rizer, who started ninth, would take over the top spot and easily cruise to his second victory of the season.  By collecting the maximum points possible by winning, Rizer vaulted to the top of the points standings with just 3 points races remaining.  #12 Eric Lake, who won the B-main finished second and was followed by #88w Jim Miller, #73TR Kyle Reilly, and #57 TJ Gilbert.  Heat races were captured by #11b Jeffrey Brush, #8 Aaron Spearling, Reilly, and Rizer.

The Elgin Pro Stock 20-lap feature event had #99 Rick Beauchamp jump to the early advantage before #35 Bob Fetters tried his hand at leading the field.  By lap eight, #71 Timmy Near would take over the point.  He would never relinquish that lead and took home is first checkered flag of the season ahead of #31 Donnie Rohn, #M65 Rick Spencer, #21 Steven Hilliker, and #93 John Robbins.  #11 Roy Bradley Sr won his B-main.  Heat gold was won by #44 Kevin Harder, Beauchamp, and Near.

A stellar field of Comp Cams Late Model drivers came to play on the 3/8th clay oval on Friday Night.  #X1 Justin Robinson led the initial two laps of the 25-lap feature.  By lap three #6r Carl Ries would make the pass for the lead.  However, #6m Dona Marcoullier would maneuver his way from his twelfth place starting position to muscle his way into the lead on lap eight.  He would have to carefully work his way through lapped traffic, but was able to complete the task with the win.  #23 Ryan Vanderveen, Ries, #0x Zach Olger, and #117 Kevin Reeve would take top five finishes.  Reeve, Olger, and #102d Curtis Deisenroth would win their heats.  The B-main was won by #24 Alex Hupert.

Defending Champion #20w AJ Ward has just about run away from the field in the points standings and solidified his position atop the points by taking the lead away from #72 Terry Gittins and #27 Matt Szecsodi on lap nine of the feature event for the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modifieds.  Points runner-up #4s Toby Steele would finish second ahead of Szecsodi, #33 Todd Matheson, and #776 Ken Zeigler.  Ward, #776r Rusty Zeigler, and Steele were heat race winners.

In the final Figure-8 feature of the season, #51 Todd Winchell would bring the field to the green flag and would lead until mechanical issues forced him to retire from the event.  This handed the lead over to #71 “Baja” Brad Bergevin.  He would lead through the half-way point of the 24-lap feature.  However, #12 Eric Lake would master the turns and intersection weaving his way to his second Figure-8 feature of the season.  Bergevin would have to settle for second.  He would be followed by #7g Danny Krause, #57 TJ Gilbert, and #8 Aaron Spearling.
